    Brief description of benefits, membership category and cost below:
 

  • Amicus: Members monitors the appellate courts and files briefs on issues concerning criminal law.

  • Continuing Legal Education: We provide 80+ hours of CLE across the state annually.

  • Criminal Justice Policy: Members serve on several state commissions and councils.

  • Forensic Experts: Maintains a database on expert witnesses available only to members.

  • Legislative: Employs a lobbyist to monitor and work with Committee who informs members of issues in the Legislature and other policymaking bodies.

  • Resource Library: Educational materials, videos and CD-ROMs available for purchase from past seminars, and sells the Tennessee death penalty manuals and juvenile defense book.

  • Membership ID card: This card might help get you into (and even out of) jails and prisons to meet with clients!

  • Member Network: Members provide assistance to each other on problems in practicing criminal law through the Member-Only listserv as well as in person. Also, has a new attorney Mentoring Program.

  • Publications: Publishes a bi-monthly newsletter, For the Defense.

  • Strike Force: Specially designated TACDL members provide free representation to other members facing criminal contempt charges in the courts of Tennessee.

  • Website: Information about TACDL's Board and Committee members, a current Membership directory, listing on all CLE seminars for the year, membership information as well as links to a wealth of research sources, briefs and motions.

JOIN TACDL TODAY!

TACDL is a state-wide association for 800+ criminal defense attorneys
and other defense professionals. The memberships are paid by the
calendar year.  Check with the office for the amount that is tax deductible.

Membership categories with present rates:

Life Member $5,000— For all CLE fees—forever
Sustaining Member $1,000 for 5 years— Free CLE at the annual meeting & converts into Life Membership after five years
Regular Member $175 per year— Private attorney or law professor
Reduced-Regular Member $125 per year — Private attorney that needs special consideration this year, because of having less than $50,000 income after business expenses
Affiliate Member $100 per year— Investigator or criminal defense professional
Public Defender Member $100 per year— Public attorneys or or staff not covered under  special contract from TACDL
New Member $50 per year— First two years of law practice
Law Student Member $10 per year— Currently enrolled in law school. May attend all TACDL seminars for free without materials
